Panchanga

Hi,

Every auspicious occasion for Indians and followers of Sanatana Dharama (loosely called Hinduism) will be held on good and bad days.

How do you define good and bad days?
To figure out what is a good day and what is not a good day, an almanac called Panchanga is used.

A day is classified as good or bad based on five properties or panch angas = panchanga.

The five angas that determine the relative auspicious ness of time are

the tithi active at sunrise the vaasara or weekday the nakshatra in which the moon resides at sunrise the yoga active at sunrise the karana active at sunrise

How are these properties calculated is explained here.

For Thursday 14th September 2006. It is

Guruvasara, Krishna paksha- asthami, mrigasiri nakshatra, Siddhi Yoga, Kaulava Karana.

Gayathri Manthra

Tat Savithur Varenyam Bhargo Devasya DheemahiDhiyo Yonah Prachodayat

We meditate on that most adorable, most desirable and most enchanting luster (effulgence) of our supreme Lord, who is our creator, inspirer and source of eternal Joy. May this light inspire and illumine our intellect (and dispel the darkness).

Another Interprtation
The earth (bhur), the planets (bhuvah), and the galaxies (swah) are moving at a very great velocity, the sound produced is Om, (the name of formless God.) That God (tat), who manifests Himself in the form of light of suns (savitur) is worthy of bowing / respect (varenyam). We all, therefore, should meditate (dheemahi) upon the light (bhargo) of that deity (devasya) and also do chanting of Om. May He (yo) guide in right direction (prachodayat) our (nah) intellect dhiyo

Turning Brahminical.

Who is a Brahmin?
A brahmin is a person who realizes Bramhan.

Who is Bramhan?
The ultimate body of knowledge. Both spiritually and physically.

So, a brahmin is a person who gains knowledge.
Any person who gains knowledge is a Brahmin.

In the olden days, knowledge was gained by learning and reciting vedas, which are massive bodies of knowledge. The rigor to learn vedas was very difficult and hence only few people chose to learn it the formal way. One learnt about nature, animals, conduct, relationships, righteousness and etc.

People with interest were initiated into education with Upanayanam, meaning a raw human being taking rebirth as a person with quest for knowledge.

In today's world many people are spending time and putting in the required effort to gain knowledge. May be not from vedas, but from other sources.

In today's caste consideration, if a person who gained knowldge by way of formal education is not born into a brahmin family, he would not be called a brahmin. But he is still a brahmin given the knowledge he acquired.

India as a society, is becoming Brahminical because of the importance given to acquiring knowledge by means of formal education.

Ask Annie: Get recruiters to call you with great jobs - May. 2, 2006

It has been a while since I put this link in my blog. Going through the archives, I find this link helpful, especially in these times of recession. (05/06/2009)

Some tips seem very useful like this one

"If you're not sure how visible you are to recruiters or to other people who might be interested in you, Google yourself," Winston suggests. "Headhunters do use Google to spot people who are leaders in their fields. So be there..........."

Hyderabad better than Bangalore: Infy CFO

It was always felt that Bangalore is a IT haven. Hyderabad, with all its laid back attitude and the nawabi culture is very fast catching up, what with the excellent support from the political class.

Very rarely in Indian politics do we see successive governments supporting older ideas.

Chandrababu Naidu helped in kick starting the IT market in Hyderabad thats being taken to the next level by YSR.

Kudos to Hyderabad, for being seen as a favorable place for IT .

It happens again. Just when the ROYAL BENGAL TIGER is sharpening his claws to pounce on the British and use them alongside his Indian curry, he is dropped from the Indian cricket team because a Queens servant doesn't want the MOST SUCCESSFUL INDIAN CAPTAIN to demolish the British.
